Ethical Use of AI in Social Work Practice
A practical, ethics-focused workshop for social workers using AI tools in their practice — leave with a decision-making framework, real case studies, and a roadmap to implement AI ethically, led by Brandon Reeves, LCSW
What You'll Learn
As AI tools become part of everyday clinical and administrative work, social workers need more than good intentions — they need a practical framework for deciding when and how to use these tools responsibly. This workshop builds that framework from the ground up: a quick everyday gut-check, a structured approach for harder calls, real case studies of what happens when it goes wrong, and a concrete plan for bringing responsible AI use back to your agency or practice.
Learning Objectives
- Build a Practical Decision Framework: Learn a quick, repeatable gut-check for everyday AI decisions in practice.
- Ground Your Judgment in Professional Ethics: Apply the NASW Code of Ethics and a structured ethical decision model to harder, high-stakes calls.
- Write Prompts as a Clinical Skill: Learn to write AI prompts that produce safe, usable, client-ready output.
- Learn from Real Case Studies: Work through real-world-pattern cases illustrating what can go wrong when AI is used without adequate safeguards.
- Evaluate and Select Tools Safely: Use a comparison guide and compliance checklist to evaluate AI tools before adopting them.
- Take Home an Implementation Roadmap: Leave with a roadmap and policy template for your agency or practice.
